Dorado in January! It's not typical, but a nice suprise but we're getting a few every week. Arnie and Kathy Sandness were on their first trip to La Paz this past week from Arizona and took this nice pair fishing with our Las Arenas fleet just out've Muertos Bay.
Pic 2
More typical of the fishing during the winter months are these cabrilla that are a great catch inshore right now. Most fish are about 3-5 pounds and can be found pretty much anywhere there's some rocky structure and have a habit of hitting hard and dashing back into their holes!

Gray whales have started moving into their yearly winter residence at Bahia Magdalena. For a great day trip, ask us about setting up a trip for you and your family.

It was a spectacular show and it was great to see so many of you and have you book your 2011 trips to La Paz. We now take the 2011 road tour to the Washington State Fairgrounds at Puyallup, Washington near Seattle. We'll be there Wednesday to Sunday. Come check us out!
DORADO AGAIN SPARK A MIXED BITE BUT YELLOWTAIL SHOWING SIGNS!
La Paz/ Las Arenas Fishing Report for Week of Jan. 17-24, 2011
About half the week it was pretty windy making it, not impossible, but certainly uncomfortable or difficult to fish. Other days, it was actually rather nice. We got a weird strange mix of species which kept it interesting. A few small firecracker dorado mixed it up with sierra, bonito, some cabrilla and pargo made for quite a buffet of species.
Besides the wind, there was some red-tide that came into La Paz Bay that made me glad that we kept most of our fishing out’ve Las Arenas instead of La Paz.
However, we’re getting some really encouraging signs of yellowtail schools north of La Paz near and around Espiritu Santo Island. We’re gonna send out s few exploratory trips because private boats and commercial pangeros are seeing some nice jags of breaking fish here and there right on the surface with some reports of larger 20-30 pound fish rolling and foaming in the upper water column on schools of bait. We’ll keep you posted!
WHALE WATCHING TRIPS

GOOD INSHORE FISHING SHALLOW FOR YELLOWTAIL , SIERRA, PARGO and CABRILLA 1-11
La Paz/ Las Arenas Fishing Report from Tailhunter International for Week of Jan. 2-9, 2010
We've had a great time in Denver this past week at the International Sportsman's Expo. Great to have seen so many of our amigos. The Tailhunter International Road Tour 2011 heads to chilly Billings, Montana this week for the Great Rockies Sportshow. If you're in the area, come by the booth and book your 2011 trip fishing trip to La Paz.
ANGLERS WORK INSHORE FOR YELLOWTAIL, SIERRA, and ROCK SPECIES
La Paz/ Las Arenas Fishing Report for Week of Jan. 2-9, 2011
GOOD INSHORE FISHING SHALLOW FOR YELLOWTAIL , SIERRA, PARGO and CABRILLA 1-11-5.jpg
Some cloudy skies and wind this week in between some really nice fishing weather. Nice time to be in town. I think most of our anglers this week have been surprised at the variety of fish. Most of our fishing has been in the Muertos Bay area where even if the winds are a little blustery from the north, we can still be fairly protected since the fish are close and we’re on the lee side of the island.
Species this week included pargo and sierra as well as cabrilla, but also a nice jag or two of yellowtail. Not big fish, but the yellowtail are certainly getting a little bigger than in the last few weeks and fun on light tackle or using the iron. The yellowtail were about 10 pounds before, but this week some skinnier 10-15 pounders were making themselves known.
The other species readily ate live and chunked dead sardines. “Chunking” involves tossing handfuls of mashed and whole dead sardines into the current and letting it drift down. Anglers then pin another dead sardine to a hook and strip off handfuls of slack line which also drifts down with the rest of the “chunk.” It’s an effective way of getting stubborn fish like pargo, snapper, and cabrilla out’ve their rocky hideouts. Of course, once they bite, you have to turn them quick to kee’p them from heading back into the hole and cutting you off.
WHALE WATCHING SEASON
By the way, we’re also sending out whale watching trips now to Magdalena Bay as the grey whales have started taking up their winter residences in the shallow lagoons. Usually, the whales are around from January to March with February being optimal for viewing with the whales and their calves often coming right up to the boats.
FISHING AND HUNTING SHOWS
If you’re going to be in the area of Billings, Montana, the Tailhunter International 2011 Road Tour will be moving from Denver to Billings this week. Come by and pick up our new brochures and DVD’s and book your next La Paz fishing trip. After that in two weeks, we head to the International Sportsman’s Expo in Sacramento CA at the State Fairgrounds.
That’s our story!

Schools of jack crevalle have started moving into the shallow beach areas of Las Arenas.
DORADO SHOW UP AGAIN TO EVERYONE’S SURPRISE BUT INSHORE SPECIES STILL MAIN EVENT!
La Paz/ Las Arenas Fishing Report for Week of January 9-16, 2011
It was a cool and windy week, but the fish we caught indicate that we still have some warm waters around. In addition to pargo, sierra and cabrilla…normally cool water fish, we also got into a few little jags of dorado. Nothing large with fish in the 8-15 pound class but fun fish and a nice surprise just-the-same. All our fishing is mostly out of Muertos Bay near Las Arenas using live sardines.
We had some really nice big schools of jack crevalle move up into the sandy beaches near Las Arenas a few days. These schools can be anywhere from a dozen to several hundred fish and they are great to get into whether 10 pounders or 30 pounders, these fish can really tear it up. There’s a reason the Mexican name for them is “toro” (Bull). They’ll eat live bait, lures, surface poppers…they’re not picky. Fantastic on light tackle or on the flyrod. Unfortunately, they’re not really good to eat unlike their cousins, the yellowtail and amberjack and pompano, but they all have that slugger attitude when hooked. Hopefully, with the showing of the jack crevalle, we’ll start seeing more roosterfish as well.
WHALE WATCHING TRIPS TO LOPEZ MATEOS STARTING UP
We start running whale watching trips from La Paz beginning this week over to Lopez Mateos in Magdalena Bay. From January to March, the grey whales by the hundreds take up residence in the warm, shallow waters of the bay to mate and give birth. Really a great life experience for the whole family. Ask us about setting it up for you.

We never know. But, it’s always alot of fun folks who just are tired of winter and want to get their toes in the sand and their hands around something colder than a snow shovel! Here’s the details:

Lake El Salto Bass
January Bass Fishing Report from Anglers Inn Lake El Salto
Top 5 Baits:
1. Lobina Lures Rio Rico poppers or Yellow Magics: white, white w / sparkles, bleeding shad
2. Yamamoto Senkos, Yum Dingers or Bass Pro Stinkos 5" & 6": watermelon, watermelon red flake and black w/ blue flake
3. Storm WildEye 4" Swim Shads: shad, white w / chartreuse top and pearl
4. Berkley Power Worms: 10" black w / blue tail and watermelon
5. Reaction Skinny Dippers ( Color: Penetration ) Texas Style
Comments:
Well we made it into the New Year and I hope your Holiday Season was joyous! As you will recall, last year El Salto receded to its lowest level in history. The fishing was terrific but we really needed a good rainy season. We received the rain we needed but the lake rose 40’ too quickly! The new foliage on the shoreline was covered with water and as it decomposed it took oxygen out of the water causing the bass to suspend making the fall fishing very difficult. In addition to the bass being suspended, there was an abundance of shad.
The lake is on a nice drop and the fishing is getting better by the week. One of the things we did this fall to compensate for the slow fishing was to offer our anglers an opportunity to come into MZT and try some light tackle (Anglers Inn style) fishing. Those who took us up on our offer were treated to some wonderful action catching Jack Crevalle in the 5-20 pound range. It was as simple as running a Zara Spook through an acre of feeding Jacks and hold on! They were also treated to the fighting, rod bending of Rooster Fish to 40 pounds. The light tackle fishing makes a fun filled day just a few hundred yards off the hotels along the beach.
Mazatlan is one of the few places in the world that offers wonderful freshwater and saltwater fishing from the same destination. If you think you would like using bass gear and tackle on aggressive fish, then I recommend that you consider adding a couple of days on to your bass Package to experience the light tackle action. Anglers Inn Offshore has its own private VIP dock, tackle shop, office, inshore boats/ cruisers and beachfront hotels. Couple this with the Anglers Inn unparalleled service and it is another experience not to be overlooked.
Thankfully the bass fishing has rebounded and will continue to do so the remainder of 2011. We are reporting catches of 30-50+ bass/day/boat and the fish look very healthy. In tough fishing situations it seems that the experienced anglers are doing better than the less experienced folks but things are starting to even out. The bite has been extremely light so you have to be on your toes or miss the fish. So far the best baits have been 5-6’ Senkos (watermelon and watermelon red flake), 8’ Zoom Lizards (same colors), small swim baits (white bellies), crank baits (citrus pattern) and Rat L Traps (silver with blue back). We have had little topwater action so far this season. Throughout the fall we have had a good number of 7, 8, 9 pounders with a few double-digit bass in the mix. Here’s what some of our recent anglers have to say about their visit at Anglers Inn:
Larry and Tom Gray, father and son team and repeated visitors to Anglers Inn reported catching 150 bass in 3 ½ days of fishing. Texas rigged watermelon lizards were the most productive during their stay. Jill & Steve Svrcek from Minnesota came down with Lisa and Jeffrey Harber. In 4 ½ days of fishing they estimated catching 180 fish with the biggest being 7 lbs. on Texas rigged and Carolina rigged lizards. Lisa and Jeffrey reported catching 150-200 bass during their stay. Their biggest bass was an 8 pounder. “Outstanding operation, best service I’ve received anywhere! Very nice people. We will be back!
The fishing at Mateos is pretty much the same as El Salto except better numbers. Folks seem to really enjoy the Mateos Resort, the private/separated accommodations, food, service and the 55,000-acre lake with its minimal fishing pressure. I recommend that you give Mateos a try and you will become a convert. In that light, we are offering a get acquainted with Mateos Resort special price of $1,690 / angler for the 4 Night/3 &1/2 Day Deluxe Package. You will not be disappointed!
Anglers Inn International is proud to announce the newest, most efficient and evolutionary guide boat coming soon to our Lake El Salto operation. When I pondered the design of this revolutionary guide boat my goal was client comfort, safety and fish-ability coupled with maximum storage with the guide directing the boat from the rear. With this goal in mind, and with the help of professional engineers and designers, we have created a new 18’6” aluminum hull boat that is like none other. With more deck space, length, width, storage space, elevated fishing seats, front & rear trolling motors, stabilizers, and an electronics package this fishing machine is in a class by itself. “Join Us” at Anglers Inn Resort at World Class Trophy Lake El Salto to experience first-hand the new concept in guided boats!
Exciting news! Anglers Inn International has created an exclusive floating mobile suite operation in Brazil. Located in the interior of the Brazilian Amazon we access to 12 major river systems and some concession Indian sanctuaries. In exceeding the ordinary, we are entirely mobile and to that extent, our customers will be fishing beyond all natural barriers. You can only reach the Anglers Inn Amazon Floating mobile Suites by floatplane or jet boat. We are in an area that cannot be reached by conventional river Boat operations. The Floating Mobile Suites are moving up the Rio Negro now and will be into position by the end of January. We are in the process of doing our final tune ups on the operation and I will report back at the end of February with updated photos, videos and more specifics! Anglers inn Amazon will have a long season because of our mobility and will operate peacock bass fishing adventures from August 2011 to early March, 2012. Get ready for an ultimate adventure!

Comments: Sorry there haven't been any reports for a few days. The fishing at Lake Baccarac is very strong but as firsthand knowledge tells me, the bass being caught are much bigger three or four days before the full moon. With top water bass fishing starting three or days before the full moon, excellent in the afternoon session. But Sixto showed us how to catch the big ones with four largemouth over 10 lbs. caught in a two-day period leading up to the full moon. The day after the full moon, not only did the number slow, but the size decreased. German and his boat had the same results, catching the big bass on wacky style senkos, Carolina rigged. Vic Henry reported catching 70 to 80 fish a day before the full moon and his numbers dropped to half of that three days after the full moon. In the last nine days, eleven largemouth bass over 10 lbs. were caught on Lake Baccarac.

December 30th to January 5th, 2011
Overall Catch Success Rate 87.50%
BILLFISH: We had another decrease again on the marlin bite, maybe the cold weather is a deterrent to them they just not very hungry. We had a couple of lucky boats though that released one or two billfish. On the 31st, Kevin Van Dyke and friends from Michigan released two striped marlin aboard the 60ft “Andale” fifteen miles out from the old lighthouse. On the 4th, “Rebecca” and “Bill Collector” had a double marlin day too; the first one was for Dr Rick Walsh and friends 30 miles from the 90 Spot and then aboard “Bill Collector”, Gary Geringer and friends from Wichita, KS released another couple fifteen miles in front of the Cerro Blanco. Twenty percent of our boats caught billfish this week. We had a total of eleven striped marlin all released.
OTHER SPECIES: Dorado catches are steady with the same average of catches with eighteen percent of our boats catching between one to three fish. At the end of this report on the 5th, Randolph Hutto and Larry Williams from Memphis, TN caught three dorado between 15 to 30 lbs; they also boated five yellow fin tuna between 15 to 30 lbs aboard “Yahoo”. A day before, James Kiser from Cypress, TX had a nice 35 lb dorado aboard “Ruthless”; the fish took a purple lure. Tuna catches are still number one this week with forty percent of our boats catching from one to twenty seven fish, most of them in the football size range. The top tuna boat this week was “Valerie” on the 5th for James Kiser and his daughters from Cypress, TX, they never lost hope, as the day before they only caught one single fish, and the next day they were furiously busy reeling in twenty seven yellow fin tuna, albeit forty two miles out on the pacific side... yeap, they had plenty fillets to take back to Texas. On the 3rd, “Fearless” was not far behind catching twenty three tuna for our repetitive client Harry Zifferblatt and sons from Miami, FL, they have been fishing with us since the kids were little and catching a 500 lb marlin here years ago, endeared Cabo to them; anyway they headed far out, actually fifty two miles south. A day after, Kevin Woodard and family from Goldsboro, NC had a great day also boating sixteen yellow fin between 20 to 35 lbs aboard "Great Escape Jr"; the fish took a combination of lures. Early on in this report, “Bill Collector” had action as well, with ten tuna between 30 to 35 lbs for the Geringer family from Wichita, KS. This same day, Michael and Forrest Graves from Dallas, TX were lucky to catch nine yellow fin tuna aboard “Tracy Ann”; the fish took cedar plugs. On the 2nd, “Andrea” boated nine yellow fin tuna too, for Kevin and Nicky Erickson from Lockport, IL. Pisces anglers caught a total of one hundred and forty yellow fin tuna this week.
As to other species we had some rooster fish, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, yellow tail and trigger fish.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear, sunny skies, some windy days, seas mostly calm to a few choppy days, cooler weather

THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET
The fluctuating water temperatures and changing currents continue to have an effect on the fishing results for the lower Baja and about the only area that still reflects good potential is the Jaime Bank and outside the 1,000 fathom curve, 10-12 miles below and outside of Cabo San Lucas, that reflects 71.5 degrees. Water temperatures inside that mark are are in the 68-69 degree ranges, which do not normally bode well for the billfish in this area. Most of the boats are still fishing on the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula, ranging from the Cabo Falso area to Golden Gate Bank. Adding to the lack of
fish has been the decline in reported fishing days for the fleets.
The overall catch report for a combined total of 11 days fished reflected 6 stripers, (4 released) 11 dorado, 34 yellowfin tuna, 8 skipjack tuna and 11 Sierra.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and pleasant days with cooler nights and temps that ranged from 54 degree nights to 76 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Light & variable, 5-10 knots of surface breeze from the westerly directions through the week. Mostly clean waters with a greenish tint throughout the entire area and out to 50 miles or more. Temps ranging from 68 to 71.5, with all the warmer water out to the south of Cabo and outside the 1,000 fathom curve.
Best Fishing Area: Continues to be on the Pacific side with most of the fish being taken within 3-4 miles of the coast line.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait remained best for the billfish and both, caballitos and mackerel worked equally well. Tuna were taken about 99% on the feathers of assorted colors.
Live Bait Supply: A good supply was available but mostly caballitos.

THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET
Overall, it was just fair fishing for the offshore fleet this past week with 71.4% of the boats reporting billfish catches. That being said, there were only a total of 7 offshore fishing days for the week that reflected 5 stripers for the fleet's effort. The numbers of charters has again declined for this area and tends to reflect poorly for the catching by the fishing fleet. However, percentage wise, the
overall fleet performance stands out well for their anglers. The
inshore super pangas reflected a 9 day fishing effort that produced very good action for the anglers and reflected 55 pargo, 4 baqueta, 1 cochito, 15 roncachos, limits of morjarres, 1 lora, 1 Sierra and 23 jack cravelle.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days with unseasonably cool nights. Temps from 48 nights to 80 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Light, northerly surface breezes in the 5-10 knot ranges, but little swell and mostly calm. Sea temps from 67 inshore and rising to 72 offshore at about 18-20 miles out to the south of the Marina El Cid. The inshore waters are green and the waters filter to a clean green tint at about 18 miles or so.
Best Fishing Area: Out to the south of the Marina El Cid, 18-5 miles or so, but no real concentration of fish.
Best Lure/Bait: All billfish taken on the rigged baits.
Bait supply: Plenty of bait available, both live bait and rigged baits.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
Captain Temo had a very positive fish report for this pat week in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, that reflected excellent fishing within just a mile of the coast and in front of Ixtapa Island. He reported good, clear water moved in and sailfish showed up in good numbers and offered good action for the anglers. Not too much with the dorado and marlin right now and the yellowfin tuna are near the 40-mile mark. "Llamarada" reported a 12 fish count on yellowffin tuna with a fly fishing angler. All of the skippers were reporting multiple sailfish strikes throughout the day and for a change, the boats were busy for thee past week with anglers from France, Denmark and other parts of Europe. The inshore action was equally as hot for big Sierra and jack cravelle and even a few roosterfish. The inshore action was a time of day thing that didn't usually get started until about 11am and the best tackle was the spinning outfits using red & white pencil poppers & shiny silver spoons, fishing right on the backside of the breakers. The hard part was in locating the schools that seemed to want to hold just under the surface, making them difficult to see and find. Once found, they were easy to stay with and the bite remained a fast-action process.
IZ Climate: Sunny and warm days, near picture perfect, and war, pleasant nights. Temps from 66 nights to 87 daytime highs. Light & variable tropical breezes from the southwest.
Sea Conditions: Cooler waters along the beach at 79 degrees and rising to 82 within a mile or two of the coastline. Clean water within a mile of the beach.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were getting snapped out of the outriggers often and the sailfish were aggressive, usually with more than one fish coming on the baits.
Best Fishing Area: Unusually close, within a mile of the coast and in front of Ixtapa Island. Made for longer fishing days and little running time.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits for the sailfish & pencil poppers and shiny silver spoons for the inshore action.

THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA)
Another family fun fishing week aboard the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet from Puerto Morelos, offering a multi-mixed-bag catch for the anglers and again consisting of an eleven fish variety. The Fleet reported in for a combined total of 22 days fished that reflected 24 King Mackerel, 5 Rainbow Runners, 4 Atlantic Barracuda, 36 Bonita, 8 Blue Runners, 13 Spanish Mackerel, 12 snapper, 4 Grouper, 1 Amberjack, 17 Triggerfish and 15 Jabones, (bottomfish). This amounted to a near 6-fish per boat average for the fleet and many of the trips were short, 4-hour events. One of the best features for fishing from Puerto Morelos is the close proximity to the fishing areas that begin just a few minutes outside the entrance to the Marina El Cid, in an area that provides a rapid bottom fall-off just outside the entrance to the Marina.
PM Climate: Mostly cloudy this week with some intermittent sunshine days. Temps ranged from 57 nights to 82 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Water temps fell a couple of degrees this past week and are now stable at 78-79 degrees with excellent clarity. Changing surface breezes through the week but less than 15 knots and very little to no surface wind-chop throughout the week.
Best Bait/Lure: The freshly rigged, skirted and un-rigged ballyhoo continue to be the bait of choice for the entire fleet from Puerto Morelos.

THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET
I just got off the telephone with Roberto Marquez, the owner of the Fish Cabo Fleet and he explained that the fishing this past week was unusually difficult and poor for the Cabo San Lucas areas and that it made no difference as to which side of the peninsula one fished on, it was equally poor for the catching. About the only for sure fish to bite have been the inshore catches for Sierra and small game fishes, including a mixture of skipjack and bonito. Even the yellowfin tuna are being caught close in for the most part and when they are offshore, they have not been overly cooperative and eager to bite. Then, the full moon has wreaked havoc on the bait supply and only got back to some normality, yesterday, when the bait boat came in with a good supply of mackerel. Along with all of that good news comes the cooling water currents and the net result is very difficult fishing for the customers. Our overall combined fish counts for 19 days fished reflected 4 stripers, (2 released) 2 dorado, 25 yellowfin tuna, 5 Sierra and 106 skipjack and bonito mixed.
Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and pleasant days with cool nights and temps that varied from 54 nights to 77 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: San Cristobal, on the Pacific side and around to the Gorda Banks toward the Sea of Cortez side, the water temps were coolish at 69 degrees and then gently rising to about 71 just a few miles offshore. Warmest water was a small band about 5 miles wide that stretched from the 1150 fathom spot to the Cabrillo Seamount that held steady at 72-72.5 degrees. Cleanest waters were out to the south of Cabo and mostly along the thousand fathom curve. Mostly light & variable surface breezes.
Best Fishing Area: Almost all of the boats continue to fish on the Pacific side of Cabo and while there is no fish concentration, that side is producing more fish than the Sea of Cortez side.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait for th billfish, feathers for the yellowfin and Rapalas for the Sierra, Bonito and skipjack.
Bait Supply: Good for mackerel but short on caballitos.

THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET
The offshore waters, even during the full moon period, seemed a little more productive this past week with 61% of the boats landing a striper and a number of boats having more than a single opportunity at a billfish. The inshore fishing remained good, albeit, slowed up a little from the weeks before. The overall combined fish counts for
18 offshore fishing days reflected 11 Pacific striped marlin and two dorado and the inshore super pangas reflected 13 jack cravelle, 2 red snappers, 5 baquetas, 41 mojarres, 15 roncachos, 2 palometas, 4 pargo, 2 cabrilla and 1 cochito for 8 days of fishing effort.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days and unusually cold nights. The temps ranged from 43 nights, (very cold for this area) to 79 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Cooler and greener waters inshore at 68 degrees and gently rising to 72 at about 10-12 miles, then to 74 degrees at about
15 miles out to the south of the Marina El Cid. Heavy greenish tint to about 12-15 miles and then cleaning to a light green tint and good clarity.
Best Fishing Area: Still no concentration of fish but for the most part, the boats were fishing out to the south of the Marina El Cid at varied distances that ranged from 18-27 miles or so.
Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits were doing well for the stripers and both dorado, too.
Bait Supply: Good bait supply of mullet for the rigged baits and plenty of shrimp and squid for the super pangs.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
Captain Temo Verbooned reported excellent action on the sailfish with concentrations in several different areas that may change from day to day. However, plenty of action with many boats landing 3-4 fish and having a dozen opportunities or more. He reported many double strikes with fish coming in hard on the baits and often making it difficult to set the hooks. Captain Chiro Barrigan, owner of the "Bloody Hook", reported very good sailfish action off Troncones Beach. Fishing with the Paul Watts group from Missouri, they released 3 sailfish on the first day and followed up with 3 more on the 2nd day. Additionally, he said they missed a dorado strike and 7 other sailfish opportunities and reported numerous jumpers throughout the area.
The inshore fishing continues to provide good action for the Sierras and jack cravele chasing the bait balls of sardines along the beaches and moving rapidly from area to area. A few roosterfish but very small for this area, mostly in the 4-5 lb. ranges.
IZ Climate: Sunny and warm days and nights with temps from 67 nights to 87 datyime highs.
Sea Conditions: Inshore waters at 79 degrees and rising to 82 degrees at about 10 miles offshore. Waters are green to clean green from the shoreline to about 10 miles, then cleaning and bluing to excellent clarity.
Best Fishing Area: Excellent sailfish catches at about 10 miles offshore.
Best Bait/Lure: Sailfish are eager and aggressive on the rigged baits. The inshore fishing remains best with the pencil poppers and live bait.
Bait Supply: An excellent bait supply for both, rigged baits and live bait.

THE CABO SAN LUCAQS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET
It's been a long time since I've seen the fishing so difficult from Cabo San Lucas. I remember back to 1978, when I was a fishing skipper from Cabo San Lucas, having a stretch of nearly 4 months where we had no billfish catches at all and even if you did see a sleeper and got a bait right on it, it still wouldn't bite. It was a frustrating fishing period. Albeit, we did have good yellowfin tuna catches during that off period of time that helped to take up some of the slack times. I believe it's just the cycle of fishing overall in
all areas and only the passing of time cures the temporary doldrums.
The boat skippers are making difficult decisions everyday as where to fish and for the past month or so, the only area that offered some form of almost guaranteed action has been the inshore fishing grounds for the Sierra, occasional yellowtail, grouper, cabrilla, etc. Over this past week, we reflected a combined total of 19 days fished that produced 3 stripers (released) 3 dorado, 1 mako shark, 28 yellowfin tuna, 15 skipjack, 41 Bonito and 83 Sierra.
Cabo Climate: Partly cloudy to cloudy days and cool nights with temps from 56 nights to 78 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: We are in the "change of water" season with daily temp changes and current steaks and clarity changes. Golden Gate Bank to Gordo Bank, temps are now at 68-70 degrees and lots of greenish, off-color water. Cleaner waters witth good blue clarity are outside the 1,000 fathom curve and mostly out to the south of Cabo San Lucas. We should start seeing some swordfish catches pop up in the fish counts, very soon.
Best Fishing Area: There is no concentration of fish in any of the offshore waters and almost all of the fish have been taken from the Pacific side of Cabo.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait for the 3 billfish, feathers and cedar plugs for the tuna.
Live Bait Supply: Not reported

THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET
Mazatlan is still producing a better than 50% chance for a billfish and it is the time of year when they catch mostly the Pacific striped marlin in their offshore waters. However, they have also been affected by the ever changing water conditions that normally don't
show up until mid-February or early March, and while they are still
having a daily shot at billfish, the change is evident and almost predictable if the waters and currents continue to change. Even the inshore fishing has seen significant changes that can be related to the water temps and water clarity in the area. The offshore Aries Fleet reported 9 days fishing that resulted in 5 stripers and 1 mako shark, (mako sharks are usually indicative of cooler and greener waters, same as swordfish). The inshore super pangas reported in for
7 days fished and reflected 1 corvina, 2 jack cravelle, 8 Baquetas, 2 cabrilla, 11 pargo, 10 cochitos and 39 mojarres.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with cold nights, temps from 47 nights to 79 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Inshore waters are 64-65 degrees and mostly green, rising to 71 degrees at 14-15 miles out to the south but not cleaning to fishable clear waters until 19-20 miles or so.
Best Fishing Area: Out to the south of the Marina El Cid at about 19-20 miles, but no real concentration of fish; just scattered over a wide area.
Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits caught all the fish offshore.
Bait Supply: A very good bait supply for Mazatlan, both live bait & rigged baits.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET
If you're coming from the cold, snowy areas, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is the place to be and is offering sun-shiny days and a toasty, warm climate. Better yet, the offshore fishing continues to be the best for the Pacific ports, too, with lots of good sailfish action going on, everyday. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the sailfish bite is excellent and reports the boats are having numerous strikes and many release opportunities throughout the fleet, everyday. Most of the boats are having average catches of 2-5 sailfish per day, (some with more) and many more opportunities. The inshore fishing took a "nose-dive" on some days when the red tide came through. On the days when the water was clear, the fish moved back in and the better fishing was accomplished using deep running Rapalas from the outriggers. Overall, the fishing is very good and the anglers are having great catching opportunities.
IZ Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days with pleasant evenings and nights, temps from 65 nights to 88 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Inshore waters a little cool and periods of red
tide, making fishing/catching a little testy for the anglers.
Offshore, the water temps rise to about 82 degrees by the 100 fathom curve and the cleaner waters, (clean green) begins about 8-10 miles
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 10 miles out from the Bay, but can change from day to day.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits working very well for the offshore fishing and deep water artificials for the inshore waters.
Bait Supply: Continues to be readily available for both, rigged dead baits and live bait.

THE PUERTO MORELOS SPORTFISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA)
An excellent report was received from Armando Gutierrez, the Marina El Cid Fleet Manger, that reflected good catches of quality sized grouper in the 10-20 lb. ranges, lots of snappers, bigger barracuda, (20-40 lb. ranges) and good opportunities for the great eating king mackerel. The overall weather conditions have been very good and most of the fishing right now is taking place just 2-3 miles from the Marina. The overall fishing report for 37 days reflected a broad variety of mixed bag catches that included 1 sailfish, 7 yellowfin tuna, 42 snapper, 40 grouper, 4 blue runners, 24 bonito, 28 triggerfish, 9 Atlantic barracuda, 16 Sierra, 27 King mackerel, 1 pargo, and one new species, 19 soapfish, (a bottom fish caught in the grouper areas that sticks close to the rocky areas and looks like a small grouper).
Puerto Morelos Climate: Partly cloudy days with intermittent periods of bright sunshine and temps from 55 nights to 81 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Near excellent with a stable 80 degree temperature throughout the area.
Best Fishing Area: 2-3 miles from the entrance to the Marina El Cid
Best Bait/Lure: Slow trolling with bonito in the downriggers for bigger grouper, drifting with ballyhoo or slow trolling the ballyhoo on the surface. (Fishing in about 120 feet of water).
Bait Supply: Remains very good, especially for the ballyhoo. Bonito used for bait are often caught fresh, daily.
